This Privacy Policy explains how StackHub ("StackHub," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects your personal information when you use our website at stackhub.me, our applications, and related services (together, the "Service").

StackHub is a platform where marketers, product people, and other professionals build portfolios, discover software tools, publish and share "playbooks" and how-to guides, sell content and training, and get hired.

By using the Service, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. Who we are

StackHub is the data controller for the personal information described in this policy.

2. Information we collect

2.1 Information you give us

  • Account information. When you sign up, we collect your name, email address, password (stored in hashed form), and any profile details you add such as job title, company, bio, skills, links, and profile photo.
  • Content you create. Playbooks, how-to guides, notes, portfolio items, comments, tool reviews, and anything else you post or upload.
  • Payment information. If you buy a subscription, playbook, course, or job posting, our payment processor (Stripe) collects your card and billing details. We do not store full card numbers ourselves. We receive limited data such as the last four digits, card type, and transaction status.
  • Seller and payout information. If you sell content or training, we (or our payment processor) collect the details needed to pay you, which may include tax identifiers and bank or payout account information.
  • Communications. Messages you send us for support, feedback, or other requests.

2.2 Information we collect automatically

  • Usage data. Pages viewed, features used, playbooks opened or forked, tools you save, search queries, and actions you take.
  • Device and log data. IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, referring pages, and timestamps.
  • Cookies and similar technologies. See Section 8.

2.3 Information from third parties

  • Social login. If you sign up using a third-party account (for example Google or Github), we receive basic profile information from that provider.
  • Third-party tools and listings. We may receive or display data about software tools from public sources or partners.
  • Affiliate and analytics partners. When you click affiliate links to third-party tools, our partners may confirm sign-ups or conversions attributed to StackHub.

3. How we use your information

We use personal information to:

  • Create and manage your account.
  • Provide the Service, including publishing, discovering, and forking playbooks and portfolios.
  • Process payments, subscriptions, sales, and payouts.
  • Match people with jobs, training, and tools.
  • Show you relevant tools, playbooks, and recommendations.
  • Track affiliate referrals and calculate contributor kickbacks.
  • Communicate with you about your account, purchases, and support requests.
  • Send marketing messages where permitted (you can opt out anytime).
  • Measure and improve the Service using analytics.
  • Detect fraud, abuse, and security threats.
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.

4. Legal bases for processing (EU/EEA and UK users)

If you are in the EU/EEA or UK, we rely on these legal bases under the GDPR:

  • Contract. To provide the Service you signed up for, including accounts, purchases, and payouts.
  • Legitimate interests. To improve the Service, secure it, prevent fraud, and run analytics, balanced against your rights.
  • Consent. For optional cookies and certain marketing. You can withdraw consent at any time.
  • Legal obligation. To meet tax, accounting, and other legal requirements.

5. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information for money. We share it only as described here:

  • Publicly, by your choice. Your profile, portfolio, and any playbooks or content you publish are visible to others and may be indexed by search engines. Do not put private information that you do not want to be shared in public content.
  • Service providers. Vendors that host our infrastructure, process payments, send email, and provide analytics. They may only use your data to serve us.
  • Affiliate and tool partners. When you click through to a third-party tool, that partner learns you came from StackHub so referrals can be tracked. Their handling of your data is governed by their own privacy policies.
  • Buyers and sellers. If you buy or sell content, training, or job postings, we share the information needed to complete and support the transaction.
  • Employers and candidates. If you use hiring features, relevant profile and portfolio data is shared with the other party.
  • Legal and safety. When required by law, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of StackHub, our users, or the public.
  • Business transfers. If StackHub is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that deal.

6. "Sale" and "sharing" under US privacy laws

Under California law (CCPA/CPRA) and similar state laws, certain data practices such as using advertising or analytics cookies may count as "sharing" or "selling" even when no money changes hands.

You have the right to opt out of this. You can do so by emailing privacy@stackhub.me. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16.

7. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate information.
  • Delete your information.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing.
  • Receive a copy of your data in a portable format.
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
  • Opt out of the sale or sharing of your data.
  • Not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.

To exercise any of these, email privacy@stackhub.me. We will verify your identity and respond within the time required by law. You may also update or delete much of your account data directly in your account settings.

EU/EEA and UK users may lodge a complaint with their local data protection authority. California users may use an authorized agent to submit requests.

8. Cookies and tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies to:

  • Keep you logged in and remember your preferences (essential).
  • Measure usage and improve the Service (analytics).
  • Track affiliate referrals and conversions.
  • Support marketing where you have consented.

You can manage non-essential cookies through our cookie settings and through your browser controls. Blocking some cookies may affect how the Service works. We honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals where required. See our Cookie Policy for details.

9. Data retention

We keep personal information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service. After you close your account, we delete or anonymize your data within a reasonable period, except where we must keep it to meet legal, tax, accounting, dispute-resolution, or fraud-prevention obligations. Content you published publicly may persist in caches or in copies others made (for example, forked playbooks) after deletion.

10. Security

We use technical and organizational measures such as encryption in transit, access controls, and hashed passwords to protect your information. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Use a strong, unique password and keep it confidential.

11. International data transfers

We may process and store your information in the United States and other countries where we or our providers operate. When we transfer personal data out of the EU/EEA or UK, we use safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses or another approved mechanism.

12. Children

The Service is not intended for anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has given us their information, contact privacy@stackhub.me and we will delete it.

13. Third-party links and tools

The Service links to and features third-party software tools, websites, and content. We are not responsible for their privacy practices. Review the privacy policy of any third party before providing them with information.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify you by email or through the Service. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
